Travel to and from Hong Kong also recorded stellar growth, up by 21.4 per cent. The resilience of the market is particularly noteworthy given the geopolitical uncertainty that emerged in late February. This strategic pivot has effectively offset softer conditions in parts of the Middle East, ensuring that Sydney Airport’s role as the nation’s primary international gateway is reinforced. Inbound immigration processing also saw gains, with 90 per cent of arriving passengers clearing the process within 34 minutes, down from 36 minutes in the previous year, showing that efficiency is improving even as volumes rise.

Major infrastructure upgrades are currently operational across Terminals 2 and 3 to support a faster, more seamless journey. The ultimate goal is to reduce the time from the kerb to the gate to just 15 minutes, a target that would place Sydney among the most efficient airports in the world. At Terminal 2, six new CT-enabled security screening lanes are now active, allowing travellers to keep laptops, liquids, and aerosols in their bags, significantly speeding up the process and reducing terminal congestion during peak morning and afternoon periods.
The terminal upgrade program also included the installation of 15 new self-service check-in kiosks and six automatic bag drop systems. Terminal 3 has seen similar improvements with 24 new automatic bag drops now operational. These enhancements are specifically designed to increase capacity and improve the experience during peak travel periods, ensuring Sydney remains a world-class transit hub. By automating the more mundane aspects of the check-in process, the airport is freeing up staff to assist passengers with more complex needs, further enhancing the human element of travel.
