Who is Baker Boy?
Early Life and Cultural Roots
Baker Boy was born Danzal Baker in the remote community of Milingimbi, Northern Territory, growing up surrounded by the rich traditions and language of the Yolŋu people in Arnhem Land. His upbringing was deeply influenced by his family’s connection to music, dance, and storytelling, which laid the foundation for his creative journey.

Musical Breakthrough
Baker Boy burst onto the national scene in 2017 with his debut single “Cloud 9.” Instantly recognised for his infectious energy and charisma, he quickly stood out by blending hip-hop with traditional Yolŋu sounds and dance. His music often features lyrics in both Yolŋu Matha and English, making him the first Yolŋu rapper to gain mainstream attention in Australia.

Cultural Impact and Advocacy
Beyond his music, Baker Boy is a passionate advocate for Indigenous youth, education, and cultural pride. He uses his platform to inspire young people, promote the importance of language preservation, and celebrate Indigenous identity. His commitment to positive representation and community engagement has made him a role model and a powerful force for change.
A Rising Star
With a vibrant stage presence and a message of empowerment, Baker Boy continues to break new ground in the Australian music scene, connecting audiences to the stories and strength of his heritage.
Live at Liberty Hall
Experience the energy and artistry of Baker Boy as he returns to the national stage with his DJANDJAY Tour at Liberty Hall, Sydney. Doors open at 7:30pm on Friday, 10 April 2026. It promises an unforgettable night of music and celebration of culture.
A Vibrant Soundscape
Baker Boy recently won six ARIA Awards. As a result, he stands as one of Australia’s most dynamic performers and a proud Yolŋu artist. His highly anticipated second album, DJANDJAY, launches on 10 October via Island Records Australia. This new record dives deeper into his roots and creative vision. It blends Yolŋu Matha, English, and Burarra across a vibrant soundscape. For example, fans can expect a powerful mix of hip-hop, punk, gospel, and electronic influences. All these are woven together with Baker Boy’s signature style.
Spiritual Legacy & Personal Transformation
The DJANDJAY Tour marks a major step forward for Baker Boy. Not only is this a musical evolution, but it is also a personal one. Inspired by spiritual legacy and personal transformation, the album pays tribute to his late grandmother. It also honors the Yolŋu spirit guide she shares a name with. Singles such as ‘PEACEKEEPER’, ‘FREAK OUT’ (featuring Briggs and Haiku Hands), and ‘THICK SKIN’ (with Thelma Plum, Emma Donovan, Kee’ahn & Jada Weazel) showcase themes of resilience and reclamation.
A Fresh Experience
This headline tour will travel across Australia. It will stop in Mulubinba/Newcastle, Warrane/Sydney, Meanjin/Brisbane, Cullunghutti/Coolangatta, Koornoo/Barwon Heads, Naarm/Melbourne, Gulumoerrgin/Darwin, and Mparntwe/Alice Springs. Each show features a brand-new production. Therefore, fans will enjoy a fresh experience that highlights Baker Boy’s evolution as an artist.
Additional Dates
In addition to these headline dates, Baker Boy will also perform at Perth Festival and WOMADelaide 2026. More appearances will be announced soon. If his debut album Gela introduced the artist, DJANDJAY reveals the man—grounded, bold, and ready to share his story with the world.
